Most conversations about AI in philanthropy focus on AI as a tool: faster and better diagnostics, better crop forecasts, upskilling of vulnerable communities, smarter targeting of support. That work matters. A second question gets far less attention: how will your funding strategy evolve as advancing AI itself reshapes the problems your funds intend to impact, over the next few years?
AI could strain health systems, disrupt livelihoods, unsettle supply chains and information systems, and shift who bears climate and economic risk, often fastest in the communities philanthropy works hardest to reach. Our hypothesis is that funders need space to explore these near-term impacts from AI’s macro role, alongside their efforts in using AI as a tool to tackle problems today. This session provides a preview of how this process could work for funders.
