WHAT WE DO

We convene, research, and build capacity to shape the future of AI governance in Asia.

We believe that achieving safe and governed AI begins with building bridges—between generations, disciplines, and regions through actionable steps across our three interrelated program pillars.

We strive to minimise the risks of AI adoption while supporting societies to adopt AI safely.

DIALOGUE

Convening critical stakeholders for urgent discussions on international AI governance across Asia.

Our signature initiative is the AI Governance Roundtable Series, which focuses on regional opportunities, challenges, and strategies for AI safety governance.

Our roundtable brings together government ministers/secretary and experts from top institutions in the Global North and policy experts in the SEA region.

TRAIN

Equipping senior civil servants and civil society leaders in Asia and incubating junior policy researchers to work on AI safety policy research.

Our first training course, supported by Cooperative AI Foundation, has over 1,300 applications competing for 30 spots.

Another of AISA's pilot program, AISA Scholars, aims to address the governance talent challenges of AI Safety (AIS) in Southeast Asia and beyond. In its inaugural cohort, AISA Scholars brings together 22 senior government officials and 22 civil society leaders in Indonesia for in-person intensive program.

RESEARCH

Generating actionable research on regional AI policy for governments in the region.

AISA SEA observatory, one of AISA’s flagship projects, provides a comprehensive view of the state of AI policy and governance in the region.

The SEA Observatory won second prize as one of the best papers of the research workshop at the UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of AI 2025.

WHERE WE WORK

Map of Asia

Asia is home to 60% of the world’s population and is a highly diverse region with distinct political, social, and technological contexts. The continent is rapidly becoming a key part of the global AI value chain, with AI investments projected to reach $110 billion by 2028.

However, AI development and governance across the region remain highly uneven. In particular, Southeast Asia has a less mature AI ecosystem and is significantly underrepresented in global AI safety and governance research and dialogue. The gap between limited governance preparedness and rising foreign direct investment in AI critical infrastructure across the region further heightens the risks associated with rapid AI adoption.

We aim to maximize the impact of our work. Beginning in Southeast Asia, we support the development of policy, technical, and research capabilities across the Asia-Pacific region to help ensure AI is governed safely and responsibly.
